SC Tech Director Jamie DeMent Represents at Women in Industry Day

On April 17, the Society of Women Engineers Lowcountry Chapter and Charleston Women in Tech co-hosted the eighth annual Women in Industry Day, an event celebrating professional women across a wide range of industries in the Lowcountry. SC Competes’ SC Tech Director, Jamie DeMent, attended as the closing keynote speaker, bringing a strong presence to the event.

The conference focused on fostering professional growth through networking and educational opportunities, while encouraging participants to feel brave, empowered, and heard in both their personal and professional lives, an idea DeMent reinforced throughout her presentation.

Her keynote, “Whose Line Is It Anyways?”, centered on the importance of setting boundaries and defining success on one’s own terms. Opening with a song, DeMent shared her personal journey, reflecting on the experiences that shaped her, the doubts she faced, and how she ultimately discovered her own strengths. She encouraged attendees to recognize and embrace their own “superpowers” as they navigate their careers.

A central theme of the day, “Lift as We Climb,” was woven throughout DeMent’s message. She challenged attendees to actively support one another through mentorship, sharing opportunities, advocating for peers, and encouraging risk-taking.

SC Competes is proud to support events like Women in Industry Day that contribute to the continued growth of South Carolina’s technology sector. By investing in opportunities that encourage skill development, leadership, and industry connections, SC Competes remains committed to strengthening the state’s tech workforce and supporting long-term economic competitiveness.
