SC CompetesTransformSC was proud to work with the SC Education Oversight Committee (EOC) on its CTE Data Project, an initiative designed to develop a public-facing data dashboard for Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across South Carolina, and alongside the Southern Regional Education Board and The Riley Institute at Furman University.
The dashboard is designed to increase access to clear, actionable data to help business and industry leaders, educators, students, and families better understand local district instructional offerings and workforce outcomes. The project also aims to strengthen connections between local CTE programs and the business community.
During Phase I, four key categories of CTE data were established: participation, student experience, results, and impact. Subject-matter experts from the Southern Regional Education Board and The Riley Institute led much of the research and technical analysis. SC Competes’ Bunnie Ward joined colleagues in presenting project recommendations to the Academic Standards & Assessment Subcommittee on January 9. The full SC Education Oversight Committee met on February 9 to review the recommendations and discuss next steps. |

“The collaborative work between EOC and TransformSC has been invaluable as the K-12 system attempts to keep pace with the ever-changing needs of the work world. Collaboration with business and industry helps ensure that what students learn in school aligns with the skills, mindsets, and opportunities they will need beyond it.” – Dana Yow, Executive Director, SC Education Oversight Committee |

Coordinating Council on Workforce Development |
SC Competes’ Director of TransformSC, Bunnie Ward, serves as co-chair of the Pathways and Alignment Committee of the Coordinating Council on Workforce Development (CCWD). The Committee is charged with two primary objectives: (1) developing a career pathways tool for students, parents, job seekers, educators and counselors, and (2) creating an education alignment toolkit for K-12, technical colleges and higher education systems.
A preliminary version of the career pathways tool has been developed and is currently under review by representatives from key industries across the state. In preparation for the education alignment toolkit, the Committee is gathering and analyzing information on existing processes for approving educational programs to better ensure alignment between education and workforce needs. This work represents an important step toward creating a more transparent, responsive system that connects South Carolinians to high-demand careers and helps employers meet their workforce needs. |

Career Clusters Partnership Grant |
Thanks to the South Carolina Department of Education, our AI-Ready CTE Pathways Initiative supports the integration of artificial intelligence and engineering concepts into existing CTE programs aligned with state workforce priorities. SC Competes is coordinating the initiative and working with the Southern Regional Education Board and the University of South Carolina to deliver key components.
The initiative focuses on three high-demand clusters: engineering and advanced manufacturing; transportation, distribution, and logistics; and health science. Participating districts will receive professional development, AI- and engineering-infused curriculum resources, industry-informed instructional materials, and ongoing technical assistance. Through the University of South Carolina, educators and students will also gain expanded access to engineering and AI expertise and pathways.
Districts interested in participating are encouraged to contact SC Competes to learn more.

Lemonade Supply Chain Game |
The Lemonade Supply Chain Game, led through SC Competes’ Logistics initiative, is an interactive educational experience designed to introduce elementary students to the foundational principles of logistics and supply chains. Developed by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), the game is part of the Supply Chain STEM Program, which promotes supply chain and STEM careers as viable pathways for today’s K–12 students and helps address the growing talent gap.
Since its launch, the SC Competes team alongside industry and other volunteers have engaged more than 2,600 students statewide across more than 55 schools. SC Competes’ Amy Sartain and volunteers have visited four schools, reaching over 100 additional students, just since January 2026.
